Crown Lengthening

Crown Lengthening is a surgical procedure that recontours gum tissue and the underlying bone that surrounds one or more teeth. This is so that an adequate amount of healthy teeth are exposed. Crown lengthening is often used in conjunction with a tooth that is soon to be fitted with a crown. This procedure provides the necessary space between supporting bone and the crown, and prevents the new crown from damaging the gum tissue and bone. Dr. Ramos or your general dentist may recommend crown lengthening in order to make a restorative procedure possible. For instance, if a tooth is badly worn, decayed or fractured below the gum line, your doctor may suggest a crown lengthening in order to adjust the gum and bone levels and to gain access to more of the tooth so it can be restored.
